Fukusa is a square cloth used by the host to wipe tea utensils and tea scoops during tea ceremony. Fold it in half and put it in your pocket before entering the tea ceremony.
The size of the Rikyu-style is 8 inch 8 minutes x 9 inch 3 minutes.
The tailoring method is three-sided stitching, and the unseamed side of the fold is called wasa.
As for the color of fukusa, the Omotesenke uses purple for men and scarlet for women.
[1] Place the seam-free wasa on the left side, and spread the fukusa over both corners with your index finger and thumb.
[2] Put your left and right hands together and fold it in half (with the crease facing you).
[3] Hold the corner with your right hand, slide your left hand to hold the edge, fold down, and lay it on its side.
[4] Then fold it in half toward you.
[5] Hold it in the same way as before, lay it on its side with the four-folded crease facing down, and fold it in eight again.
[6] Place the crease side down and inside, and the loose side up and outside.
