It is mainly made of logs and swangi, and is made of various historic old materials such as sawaguri, tagaya-san, striped persimmon, cherry, plum, and cedar.
As a general rule, wooden bases are used for booths with a size of four and a half tatami mats or less.
Sawaguri is considered to be the best material for the hearth rim of the wood base, and when old materials from temples and shrines are used, the history of tea ceremonies also becomes a topic of conversation. Other materials such as zelkova, black persimmon, and mulberry are also used.
